Use Case

Artificial Intelligence in Transdisciplinarity and the Making of the Ecological University

A collaborative health translation initiative involving small groups of Common Core students from HKU and Australian universities, in partnership with the Children’s Tumor Foundation of Australia, demonstrates the advantages, limitations, and challenges associated with employing large language models (LLM) for multilingual translations of specialized medical information. The participants translated and adapted medical documents from English into local languages such as Chinese, Russian, and Indonesian, utilizing culturally responsive frameworks for minority populations. GenAI tools, such as Hemmingway and SHeLL Health Literacy Editor, were employed to enhance writing clarity and comprehensibility.
