Eligibility

In order to apply for Fellowship, you must be a current HKU staff member who has taught in higher education full time for at least 24 months (or equivalent). Staff new to the University would normally have completed the Professional Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. If you are unsure about your eligibility, please contact Dr. Jannie Roed in TALIC.
Postgraduate students at HKU can ONLY submit a teaching portfolio for Associate Fellowship (D1), despite their previous teaching experience.

Process and Timeline

Application

In order to be awarded Fellowship, applicants need to demonstrate their effectiveness as teachers through a teaching portfolio. The teaching portfolio will be submitted online. For details, please refer to Submission. In order to submit the teaching portfolio during a cohort, applicants must attend a minimum number of workshops (see “Workshop and Registration” for the attendance requirements). However, applicants are welcome to attend as many workshops as they like. About eight weeks before the final submission, applicants will be allocated a critical friend – a colleague who will read and give feedback on a final draft.

Workshop and Registration

Starting from the academic year 2025-26, TALIC offers a number of workshops, each of which covers specific aspects of your teaching portfolio. In order to submit your teaching portfolio for assessment (review), you must fulfill the minimum workshop attendance requirements. However, you are welcome to attend as many workshops as you like.

Minimum Workshop Attendance Requirements

Participants must at least attend four (4) workshops:
  1. Workshop 1: Introduction to the Professional Standards Framework and Teaching Portfolios
  2. Workshop 6: The use of scholarship of teaching and learning
  3. ONE of the content workshops listed below:
    • Reflective Writing
    • Educational philosophy and learning theories
    • Approaches to teaching in higher education
    • Effective assessment and feedback
    • Developing as a teacher in higher education
  4. ONE portfolio writing and feedback workshop

Timetable of Academic Year 2026-27

All workshops take place from 12:00nn to 1:30pm in RRS321, 3/F, Run Run Shaw Building, Main Campus unless otherwise specified. We do not offer workshop recordings as a means for applicants to meet the attendance requirement of the workshop.
