    Abstract

That generative AI can be a useful tool in and beyond the university setting is well-established. The challenges it brings in terms of establishing the authenticity and worth of student work are also clear, with written work posing particular difficulties in terms of determining the real nature of the student assignments. However, it need not be a case of a simple binary ‘use/don’t use’ gen-AI tools in response to assessment. Deploying types of assessment and tools which allow for authenticity of response from colleagues and students in which we make use of assessment which enhances authenticity is key. With this, in mind, the presenter will share her use of using (1) the speech-to-text Otter genAI app, (2) the 3MT style video presentation and (3)mini-viva with students from the PGDE programme to strengthen this authenticity. How a combined approach where all three assessments are used together in a complementary fashion will be shared. The presenter will show how both gen-AI tools and genAI-less assessment can potentially be useful in regard to enhancing authenticity, enriching for both colleagues and students and lower marker fatigue!
