  • Abstract

This poster presentation showcases the project Enhancing Pedagogy and Promoting Digital Literacy through Self-Publishing E-books with Student-as-Partners, which explores the pedagogical potential of artificial intelligence (AI) as a powerful learning tool in fostering creativity, collaboration, and digital fluency in higher education. Anchored in the course AI-assisted E-book Creation, the initiative guides students in effectively utilizing AI tools to articulate their ideas and transform them into self-published digital books.

The project positions AI not merely as a technical aid, but as a catalyst for reimagining learning design. Students engage with AI-powered writing assistants in supporting students in content generation, image generators for visual designs, and layout platforms for editorial refinement. The AI tools support the entire creative process—from ideation and drafting to editing and publishing. This approach enhances students’ academic and creative expression while introducing them to real-world applications of AI in digital content creation.

A key feature of the initiative is the student-as-partners approach, which encourages learners to co-create knowledge and actively shape the learning experience. Through collaborative workshops, peer review, and iterative design processes, students develop critical thinking, digital literacy, and teamwork skills. Notably, students also contribute to the development of customized assessment rubrics tailored for AI-supported writing, reinforcing their role in shaping pedagogical practices. This fosters a deeper understanding of both the capabilities and limitations of AI tools, while encouraging critical thinking and ethical reflection.

Outcomes of the project include the successful production and publication of student-authored e-books across diverse themes, ranging from personal narratives to knowledge explorations. Students’ increased confidence in using digital tools, improved articulation of complex ideas, and a deeper understanding of the ethical and creative dimensions of AI-assisted learning were observed. The collaborative rubric design process further demonstrates students’ active engagement in shaping meaningful and transparent assessment practices.

This presentation will highlight how AI can be strategically integrated into higher education to support innovative pedagogical design, promote digital literacy, and empower students as co-creators of knowledge. It will offer practical insights into implementing self-publishing projects in various disciplinary contexts and showcase how AI tools can enrich learning experiences while fostering global engagement and knowledge exchange.
