Abstract
Rapid product development (RPD) is a strategic process focused on designing and constructing new products within minimum time and costs. In engineering education, students are traditionally educated in market research, engineering design, computer-aided design (CAD), and prototyping, equipping them with essential skills for innovative product creation. However, conventional approaches often involve lengthy cycles such as spanning months or even years due to extensive requirements gathering, detailed industrial design, CAD modelling, complex prototyping, and iterative testing. Recently, the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) tools has emerged as an innovative solution to address these challenges, enabling more efficient and streamlined development processes. This poster demonstrates strategies for educating engineering students to effectively and ethically utilize AI tools such as ChatGPT, AI-powered CAD systems, and 3D printing technologies. Through curriculum enhancements, practical projects, and industry collaborations, students can develop the skills necessary to leverage AI-driven design, simulation, and prototyping, thereby significantly reducing product development cycles and costs. As a result, this approach prepares the engineers to harness AI’s potential in accelerating innovation and maintaining competitive advantages in the industry.
