Abstract
This workshop equips colleagues with practical strategies for using generative AI to design authentic, pedagogically sound teaching cases for their courses.
It will open with a concise rationale for the case method in professional education, drawing on its use in two Master of Education courses to illustrate how case-based learning strengthens problem-solving and leadership skills. Curricular, pedagogical, and assessment considerations that support meaningful case use will be examined, including alignment with learning outcomes, scaffolding for learners, and approaches to formative and summative assessment.
The second half of the workshop focuses on hands-on case development. The facilitator will demonstrate concrete methods and workflows for creating teaching cases with generative AI, and then guide participants as they draft their own cases during the session. Colleagues are encouraged to bring laptops or tablets with access to generative AI tools to practice in real time. The facilitator will also provide advice to address curriculum and pedagogical design challenges.
By the end of the workshop, participants will understand when and why to use the case method in university courses to prepare future leaders. They will learn about the common curricular and assessment design decisions that are vital for effective use of the case method. In addition, they will have started drafting an initial teaching case using generative AI and be ready to pilot case-based activities in their own courses.
