The Student Learning Experience Questionnaire – Taught Postgraduate (SLEQ-TPG), conducted annually, supports teaching and learning at the University by providing data-driven insights for quality assurance and enhancement. Inviting all taught postgraduate students in their final year of study, the 2023-24 SLEQ-TPG received responses from nearly 5000 students.

Highlights

  • Feedback from TPG respondents has been consistently positive (Figure 1).
  • Gains compared to the previous administration were found in Enhancement of Leadership and Advocacy Skills and Dissertation / Capstone project / Practicum.
  • Frequently mentioned concepts as the best aspects of the TPG experience included “practical”, “opportunities”, “people” and “knowledge” (Figure 2).

As an annual survey, the Student Learning Experience Questionnaire – Taught Postgraduate (SLEQ-TPG) contributes to the support of teaching and learning at the University by offering evidence-based insights for quality assurance and enhancement. Inviting all taught postgraduate students in their final year of study, the 2022-23 SLEQ-TPG witnessed responses from a total of 4517 students.

Highlights

  • Students have consistently rated Attainment of University Educational Aims, Teaching and Learning Environment, and Overall Satisfaction above four, from the 2020-21 administration onwards (Figure 1).
  • Students perceived Teacher-student Relationships the most highly among all aspects, followed by Intellectual Inquiry and Personal and Professional Ethics.
  • Frequently mentioned concepts as the best aspects of the TPG experience included “programme”, “professor” and “knowledge” (Figure 2).

HKU conducts annual institutional surveys on taught postgraduate students’ learning experiences (SLEQ-TPG). The survey findings offer evidence-based insights into teaching and learning quality assurance and enhancement. All taught postgraduate students are invited to participate in SLEQ-TPG in their final year of studies. In 202-22, a total of 4304 participants completed SLEQ-TPG.

Highlights

  • Student perceptions of Attainment of University Educational Aims, Teaching and Learning Environment, and Overall Satisfaction all reported scores of four or above on a five-point scale (Figure 1).
  • As in previous years, the three highest ratings were on Knowledge and Skills, Relevance to Practice and Active Learning.
  • Frequently mentioned as best aspects of the TPG experience were “learn”, “professional” and “perspective” (Figure 2).

The survey findings inform evidence-informed support for teaching and learning quality assurance and enhancement. All taught postgraduate students were invited to participate in the SLEQ-TPG in their final year of studies. A total of 3736 participants responded to the SLEQ-TPG this year.

Highlights

  • Overall performance on Achievement of Educational Aims, Teaching and Learning Environment, and Overall Satisfaction reached a higher record in the 2020-21 SLEQ-TPG after years of steady progression (Figure 1).
  • The highest rating emerged on Knowledge and Skills gained from TPG programmes, closely followed by Relevance to Practice and Active Learning.
  • From qualitative comments, many students frequently mentioned keywords such as “global perspectives”, “sharing”, and “professional” as the best aspects of their learning programmes (Figure 2).

Taught postgraduates emphasised best aspects such as “teacher”, “knowledge”, “learn”, and “help”.
