Susan M. Bridges is the Director of the Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL), The University of Hong Kong (HKU). She graduated with a BA and DipEd in History, English and German from the University of Queensland and a GradCert (TESOL), MA (AppLing) and EdD in international higher education from Griffith University, Australia, where she also served as a Research Fellow. In 2007, she joined The University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Dentistry as an Assistant Professor and later Assistant Dean (Curriculum Innovation). She was an Associate Professor (tenured) with the Faculty of Education/ Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning and served as Assistant Dean (Learning & Teaching) with the Faculty to 2019. In 2020 she was appointed as Director of the Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) and, in 2022, as Professor of Practice.

An award-winning higher education teacher, researcher and curriculum designer, her work is inherently interprofessional and interdisciplinary. Since 2007, her externally-funded research and curriculum initiatives at HKU have focused on integrated inquiry-based designs (health professions education, teacher education) and how educational technologies can support and enhance these. She publishes widely in these fields and is known for her work in Interactional Ethnography. She is an Associate Editor for the Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-based Learning (IJPBL) and 2021-22 Special Issue Editor for Learning, Culture and Social Interaction (LCSI) on “Videos and Teacher Learning”.

She has served on numerous international associations including International Society for the Learning Sciences, Universitas21 (U21) Educational Innovation Cluster, QS Wharton Reimagine Education Awards and is immediate past Chair of the Problem-based and Project-based Learning Special Interest Group for the American Educational Research Association.
