Abstract
How can technology do more than simply deliver content? This poster presents Vox, an innovative, pedagogically driven platform developed at HKU. Unlike conventional learning management systems that separate content, assessment, and interaction, Vox integrates these elements to enable novel visible learning strategies.
Vox offers a distinctive set of features that empower educators to design active, engaging learning experiences:
- Embedded assessments – suitable for flipped class and TBL, Quizzes, guided questions, and forced video checkpoints that require students to engage before progressing.
- Time‑stamped collaboration – Discussion boards and instructor feedback tied directly to specific moments in video content.
- Automated group management – Smart grouping for private team spaces, enabling authentic peer review and collaborative tasks without administrative overhead.
- Student co‑creation – Learners upload videos or PDFs for peer feedback, and can even generate quiz questions to reinforce their own understanding.
- Integrated analytics – Real‑time tracking of video completion, quiz performance, and item analysis to inform teaching decisions.
These functionalities support a range of learner‑centred pedagogies:
- Flipped classrooms – Pre‑class video with embedded checkpoints ensures preparation, while time‑stamped discussion boards capture student questions for just‑in‑time teaching.
- Peer learning & review – Student‑generated content, auto‑grouping, and private workspaces create structured, meaningful peer feedback loops.
- Reflective practice – Personal notes for students and engagement notes for instructors foster metacognition and targeted support.
- Authentic assessment – Item analysis and question banks allow continuous improvement of assessment quality.
By consolidating essential functions into one platform, Vox reduces the fragmentation of using multiple tools and opens new possibilities for pedagogical innovation. This poster showcases real‑world implementations across Dentistry, Education, and Humanities, illustrating how Vox transforms teaching and learning in both face‑to‑face and online contexts.
